Market Preparation

So it's my first real life market on Saturday and I'm sooo excited - alright and a ltitle nervous. Not knowing what to expect, but the ladies from Mammas Market and other stall holders are just soo lovely in sharing their knowledge and wisdom with me! Coffee is high on the list of musts haha

This week is all about preparation and I'm finding it soo much fun pricing things putting them in baskets, I just hope it all comes together and looks as good on the day as it does in my head.

Would still love any advice or tips for a novice ;-)
See you on the other side........

Freedom of creativity

I love the freedom creativity gives.
In every new project that comes my way....knowing I can create anything however I like gives such a feeling of freedom it's hard to contain the excitement!!
Creating rings with complete freedom of choice.....bows, crochet flowers the choices are endless is you see the freedom in it.
Playing around with neutral tones - white on white
Even baking allows freedom and creativity, shaping a scone however you like and seeing the beauty in it's uniqueness
Going crazy with matching fabrics for some boys shorts....
Even right down to the littlest choices creativity gives such freedom!!!!

Knowing when to stop

You know when you really want to get something done and you're going great and then all of a sudden things start happening to tell you.....that's enough fun, time to do something else!
Well that's been the case with me today. I was having soo much fun working on a Little Ladies Tea Dress when the signs were coming thick and fast that it's time to step away from the sewing machine and have a break! Here are my signs.....

To start off you have to replace your overlocker thread that you didn't want to do yesterday,

Your needle breaks,
Your stitching starts to go loopy (you will too soon)
Your lace, ric rac and kids are having a party and didn't invite you

Yep definately time to stop and wait till the house is asleep tonight.
For the record my stitching got back on track, turns out I put my new needle in back to front....as I said definately time to stop.

From Mother to Daughter.

I love Fridays for a few years now my mum comes over on a Friday to sew, have a light lunch.... and we chat and chat and chat in between the pauses of  the overlocker....seriously someone could make a fortune if they invented quiet overlockers, most mums I know do their sewing at night when the kids are asleep!!!

Today for me was working on some boys shorts and for mum was a bit of hand sewing which she loves!! (give me machine sewing anyday!)

My mum made a lot of our clothes when I was younger. With 4 daughters I'm not sure whether it was a way of saving money or purely for the joy of sewing, but it got me thinking.... if she wasn't such a crafter and I never saw her sewing as a child would I have still developed the love of sewing that I have today - I think not.
I also love the fact that I'm carrying on the tradition of creating clothes for my kids... a generation later. I also wonder if one of my children will continue making homemade clothes for there children....I sure hope so.
One last thought....How many of us crafty ladies today had crafty mummas back in the day?

Thanks mum for giving me your crafty love and making lovely memories on our Fridays together  :-)

Baby's crinkly toy

So little miss 6 months was entertained by an empty pack of wipes yesterday for about 20mins which was a great session of tummy time.

I realised she loved the sound the wipes were making and immediately thought of making her a little crinkly toy.
I'm sure this has been done many times before.
I cut 2 pieces of bright spotty material and put the empty pack of wipes inside, sewed it up with some ribbon tags for her to hold on to, and 10 mins later it was done.

I'm so happy with it I might make her another more girly one next time, she just loves sucking, chewing and squishing it.

Yoyo making

I do enjoy school pick up time, when I get to sit in the car for 1/2 hour with 2 littlies sleeping...it's me time.
I either do some reading or cross stitch but lately I've been enjoying sewing up some little yoyos.

There's something about yoyos that just make me smile... :)

This is what they'll become.

Cute little hair clips that will be in my Made It store in the upcoming days.

Revamp: The baby bouncer

Remember these baby bouncers?

Here's an original. I picked it up for a measly $2 at a garage sale when Mr 7 was a wee baby. I tell you that $2 has gone a long way - 3 babies and 7 years later it's still going strong.
I was thinking it was time for a revamp. I have always just thrown a baby blanket over it when they're newborn so there are no indents left in there heads from the mesh, but I thought a custom made cover would look a whole lot nicer.

A bright one with love hearts...

And a softer toned one with butterflies and dragonflies...

I made up 2 so when one's dirty there's another one ready to go. There's nothing to the pattern I simply lay down the bouncer on top of the material and cut out 2 pieces then made the straps. I also put velcro along the bottom so it couldn't slip up and to keep it looking neat. I used a flannelette material so it's nice and cosy.

New made it store!

I just opened my madeit.com.au store.

Thought I would give etsy a break for a little bit as its such a big online marketplace I think it's easy to get missed unless your on there everyday uploading new items. As Im pregnant with my 3rd that's just not possible unfortunately.

So I thought a great Aussie handmade online marketplace would be right up my alley.
I've put a few things up already but will be adding many more new items every few days.
I hope you get a chance to check it out. Here's the link http://www.madeit.com.au/storecatalog.asp?userid=36639
I now need to figure out how to get one of those cute blog buttons I've seen on other blogs the 'visit my made it store' one. I'm really not computer savy.
